Hamilton Beach 25500 Egg Cooker with Built-In Timer Review
Why do people decide to buy an egg cooker? It seems like a waste of money to buy a machine to boil an egg when you can just put them in a pan with some water and boil them up, I mean that’s what we’ve done up to now right? But to be honest, how often would you have boiled eggs for your breakfast and then when it comes to cooking them you can’t be bothered because it’s not just boiling then in a pan of water, it’s the fact that you have to boil the water, then you have to put them in, then you have to time them so you get them done in the right way, and after all of that, if you’re lucky, you’ll have timed it right to get an egg that you can eat happily, that’s cooked to your satisfaction.
If all you had to do was measure a small amount of water in a machine, add your eggs, put on the lid and switch it on then wait for the alarm to go off, it’s just a little bit easier so you’re more likely to do it more often, and eggs instead of cereal is a no brainer in the health stakes.
So let’s check out the features:
Seven egg capacity
Prepares soft, medium, or hard-boiled eggs
3-egg nonstick poaching tray
Ready timer with tone
Water measuring cup with egg piercing tool
So first off you can boil up to 7 eggs at a time, and that is soft, medium or hard boil. Now you might be thinking that you wouldn’t want to cook 7 eggs at one time, and you don’t have to. You can boil any amount you need to from 1 up to 7 eggs, you just have to adjust the level of water you require in the base. You will find all the instructions in the Hamilton Beach 25500 manual.
Well maybe you prefer to have poached eggs rather than boiled, poached egg on toast is much easier to eat without the bother of the egg shell. With this Hamilton Beach Egg Cooker you can poach up to 3 eggs at one time, again if you only want 1 poached egg you can.
This egg cooker doesn’t turn itself off automatically, but it does sound a loud alarm when it is done so you can go and sort it out as soon as your eggs are ready.
Now at the heart of this little machine is the most important piece of equipment, the Hamilton Beach egg cooker measuring cup. This cup has measurement lines marked on it so you know how much water to put into the egg cooker to make your eggs the way you want them.
To follow the hamilton beach egg cooker instructions to make poached eggs, it says to use the measuring cup to measure water up to the Medium 4 line, you then pour the water into the centre of the base, if it overflows into the outer ring that is ok but you must fill the centre well first.
Place the egg holder in the base then stand the poaching tray on the top of it, lightly spray with non stick cooking spray to make it easier to get you eggs out in one piece, add an egg into each section, depending on how many you want to cook.
Put the lid on and press the on switch. The timer will sound in about 6-8 minutes when all the water has evaporated. Turn off the machine and serve your eggs.
I’m not going to say that the eggs will be perfect the first time you make them in this egg cooker, they might be but it might take a couple of times and a bit of water adjustment to get them the way you would like them to be. Once you know what the perfect water level is for you then it’s just rinse and repeat.
One customer said she was an absolute skeptic and didn’t think she needed an egg boiler, but now she feels she can’t live without it.
For people who don’t have much in kitchen equipment and are on a budget this is great, as eggs are cheap, quick, easy and filling.
The eggs cooked to perfection and after a dip in iced water the hard boiled eggs peeled very easily.
The biggest negative is the hamilton beach egg cooker measuring cup which people are complaining is very hard to read the measurements on.
Another customer complained about the steam vent being too close to the handle of the lid so it is easy to burn yourself when removing the lid.
Some customers don’t like the fact that it doesn’t automatically shut off when finished.
There are a few issues with reading the cup measurements although some people have solved it by using a fine sharpie to mark the lines on the outside of the cup for easier reading.
Other than that this Hamilton Beach egg cooker has many good reviews and is proving to be a popular choice.
