Today we’re going to look at why eggs are good for you and why it would be worth your while to invest in a Dash dozen egg cooker which can cook up to a dozen eggs at one time.

What’s in an egg?
Calories – the average large egg is about 80 calories without anything added, so boiled egg = 80 calories

Cholesterol- the cholesterol is found in the egg yolks
Protein – eggs contain 6-8g of protein, satiating, providing your body with amino acids essential for building healthy cells.
Vitamins – eggs include vitamins A,D,E, B12, thiamin, riboflavin and folate.
Lecithin- this is rich in choline needed for fat metabolism helping to move fat around the body and not accumulate in the liver it is also important for cell membranes.
Lutein and zeaxanthin – antioxidants believed to reduce the risk or cataracts and macular degeneration.

Eggs can help you lose weight!
Eggs contain high quality protein, so why is that important in losing weight? Protein is very satiating but we tend to have carbohydrate foods for our breakfast because they are quick to make. How many times do you have a bowl of cereal or a piece of toast in the morning as you rush about getting ready for work or getting your kids out to school and within an hour or two you’re starving.
That’s because you’re body can process carbohydrates quickly, it raises your blood sugar and then your blood sugar drops a couple of hours later and you feel hungry again. When you add protein into the meal it takes longer for you body to process it through the digestive tract so it releases the sugar into your bloodstream in a more even manner which keeps your blood sugar more stable and keeps you feeling fuller longer so you’re less likely to eat between meals.

What about poached?
You can poach eggs in your Dash Deluxe, up to 7 at once which is great if you want to make poached eggs for your kids for breakfast before they go to school or for yourself. It takes a couple of times to find the right level of water needed to make the eggs as soft or hard as you like them because we all like things different. Once you know, you can get the same result every time. It’s easy to set them off while you’re sorting something else out, if you spray the tray with low fat spray your eggs should just slide straight out onto the plate.
What about an omelette?
There is an omelette tray in the Dash Deluxe which is a little bigger than the tray in the dash rapid egg cooker, and if you like omelette or frittata you can do it in your deluxe. You can add leftover cooked vegetables, cheese, cooked meat to the tray, don’t overfill it as you won’t get much egg in the tray. Add beaten egg on top.
Again it might take a couple of tries to get the quantity of vegetables right and how many eggs you will need to fill it up and how much water to make sure it is full cooked, but with an omelette you can add more water and take it out if it’s completed early as you can keep an eye on it through the transparent lid. The good thing about this is you can make it in the morning and let it cool and eat it with a salad for your lunch, or cut it into 2 and have it over 2 days.
If you love devilled eggs then you can make the eggs easily with your Dash Deluxe, cool them off for at least 5 minutes in ice water before you peel. When slicing your eggs, wipe your knife with a damp cloth for a good clean cut. Pop out the yolks and add to a food processor to get a smooth mix, adding your mayonnaise, mustard and any other flavourings you like.You can add a drop of water to keep the mix smooth and creamy if necessary. Fill up a plastic bag and cut off the corner to make a piping bag and fill your egg halves. Decorate with paprika, spring onions or any other decorations that you would like and you have healthy, homemade finger food for snacks throughout the weekend or as an offering to a party or barbecue.
